Relationship as Spiritual Practice

I think most of us would agree that relationships take work and that, many times, relationships can take us away from our centeredness and groundedness in an instant. Why is that? Why is it that the people we love the most and those we interact with the most know how to push our buttons? Well, because relationships are like mirrors – they help us see ourselves as we actually are…they bring up in us the areas we need to heal and deepen spiritually, and so, relationships really are about our inner spiritual journey.

The great spiritual teacher, Krishnamurti, has a beautiful quote that speaks exactly to this point of relationship as a mirror. He says:

“Self-knowledge comes into being when we are aware of ourselves in relationship, which shows what we are from moment to moment. Relationship is a mirror in which to see ourselves as we actually are…If one is able to see oneself as one is in this extraordinary mirror of relationship, which does not distort, if one can just look into this mirror with full attention and see actually what is, be aware of it without condemnation, without judgment, without evaluation – and one does this when there is earnest interest – then one will find that the mind is capable of freeing itself from all conditioning; and it is only  then that the mind is free to discover that which lies beyond the field of thought.”

That which lies beyond our field of thought is the place where our true essence lays – in pure and unconditional love. When we remember that love is the essence of our being, and that no one can take that away from us, it is to this place we can go to in times of challenge. In those times, we can choose love instead of fear or anger to get us through the moment, and in choosing love we transform that moment into divine grace – the moment when relationship and spiritual practice become one.  So I invite you to see those two parts of you becoming one – integrating relationship into your spiritual practice, and as you do, you will find healing and more harmonious relationships reigning in your life.

Until our next gathering…

God Speaks to Us in Many Ways

Thank you all for your patience as I find my way back to being able to provide more posts on a regular basis.  Today, I want to focus on the signposts that are all around us from God, spirit, source.  Sometimes, in what seem to be small activities or events, we find deep messages that can result in transformational experiences. Most recently, my niece Ashley came to visit me so we could spend some quality time together.  She was at a spiritual turning point in her life, and in a recent healing I had done for her, I knew this visit was no coincidence, but part of the transformation I knew she was meant to go through.

She came to spend the weekend with me and so I planned out several activities that I thought would help her connect deeper with spirit and discover for herself what next steps she was being guided to take.  One of those activities was to teach her some meditation techniques.  I decided what better way than to take her to a park where we could both experience nature and feel inspired by the beauty that nature awakens in our spirits and souls.  When we got to the park I asked her to choose a bench to sit on, allowing her to be guided to the perfect place for our initial meditation together. It was no coincidence that she chose one of my favorite benches under this beautiful tree that had long vines of leaves that swayed beautifully in the wind as we sat down.  After some short instruction and some guidance, we both sat in silence for about 10 minutes.

At that point, I asked her to select another spot and so she selected a picnic table that overlooked a small pond on the other side of the park. And, this is where spirit truly gave us the signs, the messages that were clear and transformational for my niece.  As she sat and looked at the water, I sat on the other side of the picnic table to meditate.  After several minutes, I began to channel a poem that was meant for my niece.  And the poem went like this:

As she sits near the water,

Her hair glistens in the sun and the wind blows.

I hear God’s breath whispering, “My child I am here with you.”

Her heart and soul are so intent on remembering and reuniting with that place of pure bliss and love,

Yet her fears and doubts hold her back from hearing God’s words, but they are so clear to me…

“You are special,” “I love you,” and “it is time to awaken and embrace your true purpose in life.”

She sits and ponders hoping to see a glimpse of what could be; what God’s breath and love feel like.

I see the gateway of spirit opening and touching her heart.

The doorway opens…and she walks through.

The new journey has begun…

The most amazing thing was that at the same moment that I was channeling this poem to say to her, she was having her own experience as she looked at the water.  At that moment there was a group of gnats flying over the water and as she stared at them, they began to form a symbol – an eye – God’s eye.  She knew at that moment that God was looking at her and speaking to her; he was there with her showing her love, showing her the gateway to her soul. This was the beginning of the transformation I had seen for her and it created a deepness of a bond between us that only this type of experience can create through God’s love.

I leave you with this thought today – pay attention to everything that surrounds you because even in the smallest of events, in the daily routine of our lives there are nuggets of wisdom and deep messages for us if we are willing and take the time to pay attention.

Until our next gathering…

Remembrance and Transformation on Easter

As you listen to the voice of your heart, it speaks of love and remembrance. It is a remembrance of God’s love – divine love.

What does that love feel like? Do you remember? It is a feeling of being cradled in the arms of Mother Mary, being nurtured by her voice and pure divine light and feeling God’s presence and divinity within you.  A knowingness that all is well, that all is right, that all is as it should be.

As Jesus, the Son of God, died for our salvation and then resurrected, we too must undergo a semblance of death and rebirth in our lives to grow spiritually.

It means looking within the depths of our souls to embrace who we are truly meant to be – that authentic part of us that is truly formless.

It is time to let go of those things that no longer serve you  – those things that need healing in order for you to find true peace and God’s infinite love within you.

It is from that place of perfect love, that true healing and transformation can occur.  It requires us to think about our lives from a place of acceptance and not of fear.  For fear and love cannot coexist, and it is this divine love that allows us to transform into the souls we are meant to be.

As you celebrate Easter, remember God’s love for you and give thanks for the sacrifices he made for our salvation, and as you do this, take a moment to contemplate and reflect on where you are in your journey.

Perhaps, it is time for you to make your own sacrifices so you may allow yourself an opportunity to let go of the old self that needs to be put to rest (death) in order for you to embrace the new that is waiting for you as you transform (rebirth) to that which is meant to be.

Listen to the voices of your angels as they whisper to you and guide you on this path of healing and transformation.  Let it be so as you begin anew today.

Until our next gathering…

Finding the Divine Master Within You

There is something “brewing” in the world – a time of great change and transformation. I think we all feel it, but yet don’t know how to put it into words.  If we look deep enough within ourselves, we will find the answers, and, this is the focus of our gathering today.  What does this mean? It means that within each and every one of us, there is a divine teacher, a sage who has lived many lifetimes, for thousands of years – it is that part of us that is formless – that spiritual being of light.  It is where it all began, but as we took shape in our human bodies we forgot of that place from whence we came – we lost sight of the essence of our being, that divine part of us that has deep wisdom and power to co-create and manifest our destinies.

How do we find the divine within us? First, we must begin at a place of pure divine heart, a place where unconditional love resides, a place of perfect love. It requires us to let go of those things that no longer serve us, those pains and memories that bring fear instead of love to the forefront. Part of this healing journey, is to forgive yourself and those who have caused you hurt in this journey.  Only through forgiveness, will self-love emerge; a requirement to finding that place of perfect love within your heart.

The re-emergence of self-love (and I call it re-emergence for it is from whence we came) allows us to then open our hearts, our minds, and our spirit to a deeper connection with the divine and a deeper connection with the divine sage that already exists within all of us – that part of us that is blended with source/the creator – that part of us that is the true essence of our being. This journey requires much strength and courage, but possible for all to achieve when the focus is on love – for love has the power to overcome all and melt away the fears that keep us from our own heaven on earth.

So today, begin anew, and search for the divine master within you.  Begin to tap into that resource of eternal wisdom within you and you will see that life will become your place of harmony, peace, and abundance – a true manifestation of heaven on earth.  I leave you with this quote to contemplate the divine master within you: “The self-existent Lord pierced the senses to turn outward.  Thus, we look to the world outside and see not the Self within us.  A sage withdrew his senses from the world of change and, seeking immortality, looked within and beheld the deathless self.” – Katha Upanishad 2.1.1

God’s Love For You

This month, as I meditated about the topic of love, I was inspired to write several poems.  Below is the first in this series of poems.  I hope you enjoy it!

As I look within you, I see a heart full of love, but one that bears pain as well.

It is time for you to release that which holds you back, for within you is a spark of fire that is waiting to be embraced.

It is time to love thyself as God loves you, unconditionally with no shame, no guilt, but oneness with all of life.

How could God forsaken such a loving child?

He has not, he whispers his love to you, but do you hear?

Let it be so by listening to the wind and the words that spirit whispers in the day and the night.

They are words of how special you are and have always been.

You are loved more than you imagine. It is time to become one with that love so that your heart may feel respite and heal.

Remember, that with God’s love, anything is possible and so, today, begin anew and believe it to be so.

Until our next gathering…

The Power of Faith

The Gypsy Warrior Goddess

As we enter this time of the year, it is a time of giving thanks for all our blessings, but for many, it is also a time of reflection, of endings and new beginnings.  Recently, I participated in a winter solstice event where we did several rituals to bring our intentions to the universe by looking within and believing in our ability to be co-creators of our destiny.  We each were given a white rose and asked to speak softly our intentions to the rose. As I watched my rose and closed my eyes to pray and meditate, I could see how my words (which were of pure divine love) magically dispersed through the air and into the universe for manifestation.

While I believe we cannot change what is already pre-ordained, we can influence the speed at which we get there.  So I ask you, now before the New Year is here, take a moment to reflect on where you are in your life and spiritual journey.  Ask yourself what are those things that you want most in your life, and what are those things that have stopped you or prevented you from getting there.  Most likely, you have fears and your own mental restrictions causing you to believe you cannot get there or that these things will never be attainable.  But they are.  There are two things you need to do.

First, you need to eliminate this fear. How can you do this? By replacing that fear with love.  As Dr. Wayne Dyer eloquently puts it, “Any and all fears that you harbor make you the landlord to a ghost.  Face it, and feel the fear.  Replace fear by simply allowing a feeling of love or the presence of God to reside right in that same ghostly spot where the fear was” (There’s a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem, p.126).   Ultimately, by feeling God’s love and presence within you, you will replace that fear and the love will allow you to move forward on your journey.

Second, you need to establish your power of faith.  There is a particular scripture that I love in the Bible that speaks about the power of faith and how to use it in manifesting what you want in life.  In Mark 11:23-24, Jesus said: “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou  removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.  Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”

Now is the time to eradicate your fears and bring forth your power of faith. Before this year ends, take a rose (pick a color that speaks to your heart), and then speak softly your intentions to this rose as you pray and meditate.  Allow the words to come directly from your heart and soul, and then, believe that what you have asked for is already here.  Now, you will wait and see, and allow the universe to bring this magic to your doorstep. May this New Year bring you one step closer to manifesting your soul’s purpose!

Until our next gathering…

Surrendering Your Intentions to the Universe

Amazing Grace Pastel Painting

It is true that one of the most difficult life lessons is about surrendering your intentions to the universe.  We have all experienced this in life.  While our spirit seeks to fulfill its soul’s purpose, our human side seeks to control that journey.  But, it is only by surrendering our intentions to the universe, that they will be manifested into reality.  By trying to control the outcome, we unintentionally slow down the process of what we may want or desire most in our lives.

Why do we do this? Do we not trust or have enough faith that the universe will take care of us?  Well, it is both and perhaps even more.  When things don’t go right in our lives or as we expect or want them to, we tend to lose faith that good things will happen on their own.  So our ego pushes us to take control, but in doing so, we jeopardize the magic and synchronicities that come with true surrender.  I like to say, “Letting go, and letting God.” In his book, A New Earth, Eckhart Tolle states that, “When you yield internally, when you surrender, a new dimension of consciousness opens up…Circumstances and people then become helpful, cooperative.  Coincidences happen.”

So how do we surrender? Not an easy feat, but one that is possible.  Sometimes it takes you to walk away from something or someone you love the most in order to see what you want manifested in your life. So it does go back to faith and trust. It is about trusting that what is meant to be yours cannot be taken away from you, and that when it is in divine order to be part of your life, it will be.  I show this in my painting called, Amazing Grace.  It is through surrender and faith that we awaken as an illuminated soul.

I leave you with another favorite quote of mine by Saint Augustine:  “Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe.”

Until our next gathering…

Welcome to The Soul Healing Corner

Thank you for joining us on The Soul Healing Corner. My name is Eileen Santos, spiritual artist and healer, and I created this blog to share inspirational stories and spiritual nuggets of wisdom with you that have changed my life.  Topics will vary across the areas of art, healing and spirituality – everything from the inspirations and meanings behind my pastel paintings to soul healing techniques to spiritual wisdom that has served me well throughout my journey.  I hope that you too will share your stories and inspirations!

Let me start with two of my favorite quotes that I now embrace fully every day:  “everything happens for a reason” and “your thoughts create your reality.”  Anyone who knows me well recognizes that I profess these phrases constantly, as they can be very powerful in helping to transform your life.

I began my spiritual journey back in 2003 – one that took me through various stages of truth, light, and healing. Embracing the truth within me was very difficult and painful.  But as I did, I was able to heal those pains and memories that kept me chained to a past that was very hurtful.  As I embraced these truths, I began to release the pain and love myself again, but also forgive others who had come into my life to teach me some very important, but painful lessons.

At this point in my life, I realized that I needed to allow the universe to bring the events together in my life that were meant to be (without my resistance) in order to truly find peace and happiness in life.  So when I say everything happens for a reason, I mean that every event happens in divine order.  The more you resist, the more painful your journey will be.  Allow the universe to show you the way – let go and let spirit guide you every step of the way.

As I embraced these truths, I also had to change my thoughts and the messages my mind was sending out to the universe.  What good is it to embrace who you are if your thoughts do not align with positive, loving statements? And so, I changed my thoughts and used affirmations and visualizations to create a future that aligned with my soul’s purpose – to be here with you and help you on your spiritual journey as well. I stand here today as proof that everything, indeed, does happen for a reason and that the energy and thoughts you put out to the universe do manifest in your life.

Until our next gathering…
